Removal procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the bottom engine cover.
3. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield with bolts.
4. Loosen the fastening nuts securing the upper flange of the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold.
Important: Nuts and threaded stud may come off completely due to high exhaust manifold temperature, but they can be replaced.
5. Loosen the nuts securing the catalytic converter to the exhaust pipe of the muffler.
6. Remove the bolt and nut from the muffler exhaust pipe mounting bracket.
7. Remove catalytic converter and gasket.
8. Clean the sealing surfaces on the exhaust pipe and exhaust manifold.
9. Check the muffler downpipe and exhaust manifold for holes, damage, open seams, or other defects that could allow exhaust fumes to enter the passenger compartment.
Installation procedure
1. Install the gasket and tighten the nuts securing the catalytic converter upper flange to the exhaust manifold.
Tighten
Tighten the catalytic converter upper flange nuts to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
2. Install the catalytic converter and gasket on the exhaust pipe flange of the muffler.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts securing the catalytic converter to the exhaust pipe of the muffler to a torque of 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
Tighten the bolt and nut of the muffler exhaust pipe mounting bracket to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
3. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield screws to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft).
4. Install the engine bottom shield.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
