Removal procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the transaxle rear mount bracket assembly. See section 1C1, mechanical part of the engine - FAM II 2.4D.
3. Remove the nuts that secure the battery wire lead and the wire coming from the alternator from the starter solenoid relay leads.
4. Remove the screw securing the starter to the engine block and the screw securing the starter to the gearbox.
5. Remove the starter assembly.
Installation procedure
1. Install starter mounting screws.
Tighten
Tighten the screw securing the engine block to the starter to 75 Nm (55 lb-ft).
Tighten the screw securing the gearbox to the starter to 75 Nm (55 lb-ft).
2. Install the ignition solenoid relay nut and alternator lead wire nut to the starter solenoid relay terminals.
Tighten
Tighten the nut securing the starter solenoid relay terminal to the battery wire lead to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft).
Tighten the nut securing the starter solenoid relay terminal to the generator wire lead to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft).
3. Install the transaxle rear suspension bracket assembly. See Section 1C1, Engine Mechanical - FAM II 2.4D.
Tighten
Tighten the transaxle rear suspension bracket set screws to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).
Tighten the through screw and nut securing the rear suspension of the gearbox with final drive assembly to the bracket to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).
