Removal procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor connector (IAT).
3. Remove the air filter assembly. See Section 1C1, Engine Mechanical - FAM II 2.4D.
4. Disconnect the harness connector from the generator.
5. Remove the mounting screws of the alternator upper bracket and the clamp screws connecting the alternator to the intake manifold.
6. Raise and secure the vehicle.
7. Remove the flexed auxiliary drive belt. See section 1C1, mechanical part of the engine - FAM II 2.4D.
8. Disconnect the wire connecting the generator wire to the starter from the generator.
Note: Do not remove the thru-screw, nut and washers of the alternator at this stage.
9. Unscrew the nut and loosen the washers holding the screw securing the alternator bottom bracket to the alternator.
10. Remove the alternator lower support bracket screws.
11. Carefully remove the alternator with the bottom support bracket.
12. Remove the through screw, nut and washer connecting the alternator to the bottom support bracket.
Installation procedure
1. Install the alternator bottom support bracket to the alternator and insert the through screw.
Note: Do not tighten the alternator through screw at this stage.
2. Install the alternator and lower support bracket assembly to the engine block.
Tighten
Tighten the generator lower support bracket screws to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
3. Tighten the through screw connecting the alternator to the bottom support bracket.
Tighten
Tighten the alternator through screw to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
4. Attach a wire to the generator connecting the end of the generator to the starter.
5. Install the flex accessory drive belt. See section 1C1, mechanical part of the engine - FAM II 2.4D.
6. Lower the car.
7. Install the alternator upper bracket and clamp connecting the alternator to the intake manifold.
8. Install the alternator upper bracket mounting screws and the clamp connecting the alternator to the intake manifold.
Tighten
Tighten lock screws (1) generator top bracket up to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft), and the screw (2) up to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
Tighten lock screw (3) clamp connecting the generator to the intake manifold, up to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft), and the screw (4) up to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
9. Connect the wiring harness connector to the generator.
10. Install the air cleaner assembly and intake air temperature sensor connector. See section 1C1, mechanical part of the engine - FAM II 2.4D.
11. Connect the negative battery cable.
