Removal procedure
Attention! To prevent personal injury, do not remove the expansion tank cap on a hot engine and radiator as the heat pressurizes the system. Hot liquid and steam can escape under high pressure.
1. Drain the coolant. follow the paragraph «Draining and recharging the cooling system» in this section.
2. Loosen the upper radiator hose clamp on the thermostat housing.
3. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
4. Remove the mounting bolts holding the thermostat housing to the cylinder head.
5. Remove the thermostat housing from the cylinder head.
6. Remove the O-ring from the thermostat housing.
7. Remove the thermostat from the thermostat housing by pushing down the mounting flange of the thermostat housing and turning it clockwise.
8. Check the valve seat for foreign objects that may prevent proper valve sealing.
9. Check the functionality of the thermostat. follow the paragraph «Thermostat check» in this section.
10. Clean the thermostat housing and the sealing surfaces of the cylinder head.
Installation procedure
1. Install the thermostat on the thermostat housing by pushing down the mounting flange of the thermostat housing and turning it counterclockwise. Rotate the thermostat housing flange until it fits into the notches in the thermostat housing.
2. Install a new O-ring into the recess in the thermostat housing.
3. Install the thermostat housing to the cylinder head.
4. Attach the thermostat housing to the cylinder head with the mounting screws.
Tighten
Tighten the fixing screws of the thermostat housing to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft).
5. Connect the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing.
6. Tighten the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing with a hose clamp.
7. Refill the engine cooling system. follow the paragraph «Draining and recharging the cooling system» in this section.
