EN-48278 Tool for dismantling/installing the locking rings of the reserve fuel pump
Removal procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Fold down the rear seat.
3. Raise the mat and insulation.
4. Remove the covers to access the main and standby fuel pumps.
5. Disconnect the backup fuel pump assembly electrical connector.
6. Install the EN-48278 backup fuel pump lock ring remover/installer onto the backup fuel pump and turn it counterclockwise.
7. Remove the locking ring of the backup fuel pump.
Note: Be careful not to damage the fuel gauge when removing the fuel pump assembly from the fuel tank.
8. Remove the reserve fuel pump assembly and O-ring from the fuel tank.
Note: O-ring must not come into contact with fuel.
9. Disconnect the connecting hose connecting the primary fuel pump to the secondary fuel pump from the secondary fuel pump.
10. Disconnect the electrical connector from the main fuel pump.
11. Disconnect the fuel supply and return lines.
12. Install the EN-48279 main fuel pump lock ring remover/installer onto the main fuel pump and turn it counterclockwise.
13. Remove the lock ring of the main fuel pump.
Note: Be careful not to damage the fuel gauge when removing the fuel pump assembly from the fuel tank.
14. Remove the main fuel pump assembly and O-ring from the fuel tank.
Note: O-ring must not come into contact with fuel.
Installation procedure
1. Clean all contact surfaces for seals on both fuel pumps and in the fuel tank.
Note: To make it easier to attach the connecting hose connecting the main fuel pump to the secondary fuel pump, install the main fuel pump assembly first.
Note: Make sure the arrow on the main fuel pump assembly aligns with the arrow on the fuel tank.
Note: Be careful not to damage the fuel gauge when installing the fuel pump assembly to the fuel tank.
Attention! Do not reuse the main fuel pump O-ring.
2. First, place a new main fuel pump O-ring and main fuel pump in the fuel tank, in the same position as before removal.
3. Remove the connecting hose connecting the primary fuel pump and the secondary fuel pump from the secondary fuel pump assembly.
4. Connect the connecting hose connecting the primary fuel pump to the secondary fuel pump to the secondary fuel pump.
Note: Make sure the arrow on the standby fuel pump housing aligns with the arrow on the fuel tank.
Note: Be careful not to damage the fuel gauge when installing the fuel pump assembly to the fuel tank.
Attention! Do not reuse the backup fuel pump O-ring.
5. Place a new backup fuel pump o-ring and backup fuel pump into the fuel tank, in the same position as before removal.
6. Install the backup fuel pump lock ring by turning the EN-48278 lock ring remover/installer clockwise.
7. Connect the electrical connector to the backup fuel pump.
8. Install the main fuel pump lock ring by turning the EN-48279 main fuel pump lock ring remover/installer clockwise.
9. Connect the electrical connector to the main fuel pump.
10. Connect the supply and return fuel lines.
11. Install covers to access the primary and secondary fuel pumps.
12. Connect the negative battery cable.
13. Check the operation of the fuel pump.
14. Return the rear seats to their original position.
