Action Taken When the DTC Sets - Type A

Action Taken When the DTC Sets - Type B (or E)

- An archive of diagnostic trouble codes is stored.
Conditions for clearing the fault code / turning off the fault indication - type A or type B (or E)
- The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will turn off after four consecutive driving cycles in which no fault is detected by the diagnostics.
- The DTC history is cleared after 40 consecutive heating cycles without faults.
- The DTC can be cleared with a scan tool.
DTCs not related to the emission of harmful substances

Conditions for erasing fault codes - type Cnl
- The DTC history is cleared after 40 consecutive heating cycles without faults.
- The DTC can be cleared with a scan tool.
Conditions for erasing fault codes - type Z
This DTC is present in the controller software but disabled or disabled. In this case, no diagnostic test is performed, no DTCs are stored, and the MIL does not illuminate.
Clearing diagnostic codes
Important: DTCs should not be cleared unless a service enable message has been received for this operation from the diagnostic procedure. After the DTCs are cleared, the status and fault log data that can assist in the diagnosis of intermittent failures will also be cleared from memory. If the fault that caused the DTC to be stored in memory has been corrected, the Operational Diagnostic will cycle through "warming up", at which no further faults are detected and the DTC will be automatically cleared from the ECM memory. A diagnostic scan tool must be used to clear DTCs.
Note: To avoid damage to the ECM, when connecting and disconnecting the ECM (for example, battery wires, ECM connector, ECM fuse, jumpers, etc.) the key must be in the OFF position. When the ECM sets a DTC, the MIL will illuminate for types A, B, and E only, but DTCs are stored in the ECM memory for all code types. The DTC remains in the ECM memory until cleared with a scan tool. After repair is completed, DTCs should be cleared. Some diagnostic tables provide for clearing codes before using the tables. This allows the ECM to set DTCs by running the table, which helps to find the cause of the problem more quickly.
Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Additional DTC information is written to the symptom byte as a 2-digit hexadecimal number. Symptom byte value equal to zero (00) indicates that there is no additional information other than that contained in the DTC description. The symptom byte may not be displayed on the scan tool.
