Engine does not start — crankshaft does not turn (Chevrolet Captiva 1 2006-2018: Engine 2.0 l (diesel): Troubleshooting)

Cause	elimination
Stuck accessory drive system component	Carefully inspect the components of the accessory drive system. Repair or replace any damaged components.
Hydraulically locked cylinder Coolant/antifreeze has entered the cylinder There is oil in the cylinder Fuel entered the cylinder	Inspect gasket (gaskets) heads for damage. Carefully inspect the engine block or cylinder head for cracks. Check fuel injector for buildup.
Jamming torque converter automatic transmission	Dismantle the engine assembly. When installing the engine on the gearbox, there is no access to the torque converter bolts. Rotate the crankshaft by the pulley.
Jamming of a manual transmission	Disengage clutch. Rotate the crankshaft by the pulley. Cm. "Unit Repair Manual - Manual Transmission".
Foreign material in cylinder: Broken valve Piston material Foreign material	Carefully inspect the cylinder for damaged components and/or foreign material. Repair or replace if necessary.
Seized crankshaft or connecting rod bearings	Carefully inspect the crankshaft and connecting rod bearings Repair if necessary.
Deformed or broken connecting rod	Check rods. Repair if necessary.
Broken crankshaft	Inspect the crankshaft. Repair if necessary.
