Normal vehicle use
The maintenance instructions given in the maintenance plan must be followed while the vehicle is being used in the following cases:
- Carriage of passengers and cargo within the limits indicated on the rating plate.
- Driving on a roadway with an acceptable surface quality and in compliance with regulatory tolerances in operation.
Scheduled maintenance information
The activities listed in the maintenance plan are explained below. When performing maintenance, make sure that all parts have been replaced and all necessary repairs have been made before driving. Use only appropriate fluids and lubricants.
Drive Belt Inspection
If the power steering pump, air conditioning compressor and alternator are driven by a separate belt, it must be checked for cracks, chafing, wear and correct tension. Adjust belt tension or replace if necessary.
Changing engine oil and oil filter
Always use the recommended engine oil. Talk to «Recommended fuels, lubricants and operating fluids» in this section.
Engine oil viscosity
Engine oil viscosity (density) affect fuel economy and cold weather operation. Lower viscosity engine oils save more fuel and improve cold weather performance; however, as the ambient temperature rises, higher viscosity engine oils are required for satisfactory lubrication. If you use oils with a viscosity other than recommended, you can damage the engine.
Cooling system maintenance
Drain, pump coolant and fill with new. Talk to «Recommended fuels, lubricants and operating fluids» in this section.
Fuel filter replacement
Inspect and replace the engine fuel filter. See «Scheduled Maintenance Cards» in this section.
Replacing the air filter element
Replace the air filter element every 45,000 km (30,000 miles).
In dusty conditions, change the air filter more frequently.
Tightening torque of the mounting bolts on the throttle body
Check the torque of the mounting bolts on the throttle body.
Tighten
If necessary, tighten the mounting bolts on the throttle body to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
Replacing spark plugs
Replace spark plugs with others of the same type.
Replacing spark plug wires
Clean the wires and check for burns, cracks, or other damage. Check that the outlet protective cap on the direct ignition system module is securely seated (DIS) and on spark plugs. Replace wires if necessary.
Brake system maintenance
Check disc brake pads every 30,000 km (20,000 miles) or 24 months. Check pad thickness carefully. If the pads do not withstand another 30,000 km (20,000 miles) mileage, replace them. Make sure that there is no dirt and open passage in the suction tube of the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Maintenance of the gearbox with final drive assembly
A manual transmission fluid change is not required. For automatic transmissions with final drive assembly, see «Scheduled Maintenance Cards»in this section.
Checking and turning tires and wheels
Check tires for abnormal wear or damage. Rotate tires to evenly distribute wear and maximize tire life. If there is uneven or premature wear, check the wheel alignment for damage. With the wheels and tires removed, check the condition of the brakes. See «At every oil change» in this section.
