Caution: Using the wrong grade of fuel or adding the wrong additives to the fuel tank can cause serious engine and catalytic converter damage. Use only fuel for refueling (gasoline or diesel fuel), prescribed for this vehicle. When refueling a diesel-powered vehicle, serious damage to the vehicle may occur. If the car is equipped with a diesel engine, then the required brand of fuel can be found by looking at the information on the fuel filler cap.
Danger: Before refueling, turn off the engine and auxiliary heaters that have their own combustion chambers. Turn off mobile phones.
Fuel vapors can be ignited by electromagnetic waves or mobile phone current.
Fuel is flammable and explosive. Do not smoke. Avoid open flames and sparks. When refueling, follow the instructions and safety regulations of the filling station.
For safety reasons, canisters, pumps and hoses must be properly grounded. A discharge of static electricity can ignite gasoline vapors. This could result in burns and damage to the vehicle.
Before opening the fuel cap or touching the fuel nozzle, discharge static electricity from your hands by touching something that discharges static charges.
When refueling, do not take any action that could cause an electrostatic discharge, such as getting into or out of a vehicle. Electrostatic discharge can ignite fuel vapors.
Danger: If there is a smell of fuel in the vehicle interior, immediately eliminate the cause of the malfunction at a workshop.
The fuel tank flap is located on the rear left side of the vehicle.
1. Stop the engine.
2. Unlock the door by pressing the door lock switch on the driver's door trim.
3. Open the fuel tank door.
4. Slowly turn the filler cap counterclockwise. If a hissing sound occurs, wait until it stops before fully unscrewing the cap.
5. Remove the cover. The lid is attached to a hinge.
6. Close the lid after filling. Turn the cap clockwise until it clicks into place.
7. Close and latch the fuel tank flap tightly.
Note: If the fuel cap does not open in cold weather, lightly tap on the cap. Then try to open again.
Caution: Spilled fuel must be wiped up immediately.
