Recommended fuel
Use of fuel, the quality of which does not comply with the current Technical Regulations (Directive No. 118 of February 27, 2008, as amended on December 30, 2008 No. 1076) may damage the engine and void the warranty. Be sure to use 95 octane unleaded gasoline.
The quality of the fuel and the additives it contains have a significant impact on engine power, vehicle dynamics and engine life.
Low octane fuel can cause knocking in the engine.
Caution: Use of fuel with an octane rating below 95 may result in engine damage. (Some countries allow the use of unleaded petrol with an octane rating of 91. We recommend contacting an Authorized Service Center for clarification.)
The use of leaded fuel will damage the exhaust system and void the warranty.
Note: To prevent accidental use of leaded gasoline, your vehicle is equipped with a fuel filler neck that is smaller in diameter than the tip of the leaded gasoline filler nozzle.
Do not use methanol (methyl alcohol).
Do not use fuel containing methanol to refuel the vehicle.
Use of such fuel will result in poor vehicle performance and damage to fuel system components.
Caution: The use of methanol can damage the fuel system. Such misuse of the vehicle may void the warranty. Using the car in other countries when traveling abroad:
- Comply with all legal regulations regarding registration and insurance.
- Make sure you have the correct fuel.
Fuel additives
Gasoline must contain detergent additives that help prevent deposits in the engine and fuel system. Clean fuel injectors and intake valves keep the emission control system functioning properly. Some types of gasoline do not contain enough additives to keep fuel injectors and intake valves clean. To compensate for this lack of detergency, it is recommended that GM Fuel System Treatment PLUS be added to the fuel tank (ACDelco Part # 88861013) at every engine oil change or every 15,000 km, whichever comes first.
Gasoline grades containing oxidizers such as esters and ethanol may be available in your area. However, fuel grades containing more than 15% ethanol, such as E85 (85% ethanol), or over 15% MTBE (fir), should not be used on vehicles that are not designed for the use of such fuel.
Note: This vehicle is not designed to use fuel containing methanol. Do not use fuel containing methanol. It can corrode metal parts of the fuel system and damage plastic and rubber parts. Such damage will not be covered by the vehicle warranty.
Some gasolines may contain an octane booster called methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (MMT). Ask the gas station attendant if the gasoline they sell contains MMT. The use of such gasoline is not recommended.
Fuel containing MMT can shorten spark plug life and degrade emission control system performance. The malfunction indicator lamp may come on. If this happens, contact your dealer for service.
