The best way to transport is to use a tow truck.
When towing on 2 wheels, raise the front drive wheels and tow with the front wheels locked.
Towing a car with an all-wheel drive system
Transportation on a flat platform is the best method of towing a vehicle with a four-wheel drive system to avoid any damage.
If this method is not available, use a towing dolly to tow the vehicle (see picture below).
Caution: When towing a vehicle with an all-wheel drive system whose front or rear wheels are rolling on the road, the vehicle's drive system may be severely damaged.
Never tow a vehicle with its front or rear wheels left on the road.
When towing a car, the following rules must be observed:
- There must be no passengers in the towed vehicle.
- In a towed vehicle, release the parking brake and shift into neutral.
- Turn on the hazard warning lights.
- Observe the speed limit.
Emergency towing
If it is not possible to tow the car with a tow truck, proceed as follows:
Towing eye at the front of the car
The towing eye is located under the bumper of the car. Remove the plug on the front spoiler on the driver's side and attach the cable to the towing eye. The towed vehicle must have a driver who will control it using the steering wheel and brake pedal. Towing in this way can only be carried out on paved roads, for short distances and at low speeds. At the same time, the wheels, axles, transmission, steering and brake mechanisms of the car must be in good condition.
Attention: When towing a car with a tow rope, there is a possibility of breakage of some parts of the car.
To avoid breakage:
- Towing by the front eye should only be carried out if no other towing equipment is available.
- It is recommended to tow the vehicle by its front end.
- The tow rope must not be caught on the bumper.
- Check that both ends of the tow rope are securely attached to the eye. To do this, tighten the tow rope.
- Towing with a tow rope may damage the automatic transmission. It is recommended to use a flatbed tow truck or a lift to tow a vehicle with an automatic transmission.
Caution: Vehicles with automatic transmission: do not tow the vehicle using the towing eye. Towing with a tow rope can damage the automatic transmission. It is recommended to use a flatbed tow truck or a lift to tow a vehicle with an automatic transmission.
- A vehicle with a manual transmission must be towed forward, at a maximum speed of 88 km/h. In all other cases, as well as in the presence of a gearbox malfunction, the front axle must be raised off the ground.
- The car must move at a moderate speed and without sudden jerks.
Warning: Be careful as When towing with a rope, control of the vehicle being towed may be lost.
- Do not tow a vehicle with damaged wheels, axles, transmission, steering system and brakes.
- Do not turn off the ignition switch while the vehicle is being towed. this will lock the steering column and cause you to lose control of the vehicle.
Caution: Do not use the vehicle's towing hook for towing. Otherwise, the vehicle may be damaged.
Rear towing eye attachment
When towing another vehicle, use the rear towing eye mount.
To use the rear towing eye mount, follow the steps below.
1. Locate the rear towing eye mount under the floor in the luggage compartment.
2. Open the cover on the rear bumper and firmly screw the towing eye mount into place.
When using the rear towing eye attachment, the tension of the cable or chain must be directed strictly along the axis of the vehicle. Do not allow force to be applied at an angle to the vehicle axis. To avoid accidents, do not allow a sharp release of the cable tension.
Caution: Do not use the towing hook to tow another vehicle. Otherwise, the vehicle may be damaged.
