If driving conditions require sudden acceleration after cruise control is set, the speed can be increased in the normal way by mechanically depressing the accelerator. Cruise control disengages when brakes are applied (or clutch, with manual transmission).
The minimum speed to enable automatic cruise control is 30 km/h (19 mph). When cruise control is operating, the CRUISE warning light in the instrument cluster will illuminate.
Engine control controller (ECM) monitors the signal circuits of the control switches of the cruise control system. The cruise control switch signal circuits are used by the ECM to determine when to learn and maintain vehicle speed. The ECM monitors the vehicle speed sensor signal circuit to maintain vehicle speed. The ECM uses a throttle actuator motor (TAC) to control vehicle speed.
Switch of the automatic speed maintenance device
Once the main switch is turned on and the neutral position of the switch is detected by the cruise control actuator, the cruise control switch can perform the following operations:
Installation
To activate the cruise control system, turn the system on by pressing the ON/OFF button (ON OFF) and briefly pressing the SET/COAST button (SET/COUNTER), when the minimum speed of 30 km/h is reached (19 mph). The ECM will confirm that the cruise control conditions are met. The ECM will learn the vehicle speed and illuminate the cruise control warning light.
Depressing the accelerator pedal while cruise control is engaged allows the driver to override cruise control to accelerate the vehicle above the current vehicle speed. When the accelerator pedal is released, the vehicle will slow down and resume at the set speed.
Coasting
If cruise control is turned off by the main switch, all cruise control functions will stop. When the cruise control system or the ignition is turned off, the set speed stored in the memory is cleared.
Acceleration
Pressing and holding the RESUME/ACC button (RESTORE / SPEED UP) when the cruise control system is activated, allows you to increase the speed of the vehicle in comparison with the current set speed. When the RESUME/ACC button is released, the ECM remembers the vehicle speed and will maintain the newly set speed. When the cruise control system is activated, briefly pressing the RESUME/ACC button increases the vehicle speed in increments of 1.6 km/h (1 mph) each time you briefly press the RESUME/ACC button.
Resumption
If cruise control is enabled but the system was disabled due to brake or clutch pedal being pressed, maximum speed exceeded, or minimum speed not being maintained, the last memorized speed can be restored by pressing the RESUME/ACC button. Briefly pressing the RESUME/ACC button after cruise control has been disengaged by depressing the brake pedal will restore the previously set vehicle speed stored in the ECM.
If cruise control is turned off by the main switch, all cruise control functions will stop. When the cruise control system or the ignition is turned off, the set speed stored in the memory is cleared.
