Removal procedure
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
Attention! Sensor and diagnostic module (SDM) can maintain sufficient voltage to deploy the airbags and pretensioners for 1 minute after the ignition is turned off and the fuse has been removed. If the airbags and pretensioners are not disconnected, do not start service until one minute has passed after disconnecting power from the SDM. If the airbags are disconnected, service can be started immediately, without a one-minute waiting period. Failure to temporarily disable the airbag system (SIR) may result in unexpected airbag deployment, injury, and unnecessary airbag system repairs.
2. Place the steering wheel exactly in the middle position.
Attention! Always hold the airbag module upside down when handling the airbag module. In this case, if the module is accidentally activated, the airbag will have room for expansion. If there is no room for expansion, a module thrown towards a person or object could cause injury or damage to the vehicle.
3. Insert a small flat blade tool horizontally into the side hole on the steering wheel to release the driver airbag module.
4. Push the pin on the airbag module holder to release the latch that secures the driver's airbag module to the steering wheel.
5. Disconnect the driver airbag module connector.
6. Remove the driver's airbag module.
