The electronic engine management system is equipped with a self-diagnosis function: the electronic control unit constantly analyzes the signals of all sensors and engine operation parameters. In the event of a malfunction, a diagnostic code is stored in the memory of the control unit, and the signal lamp 22 lights up in the instrument cluster (see fig. 1.7). In this case, the control unit switches to the backup program, which allows you to continue driving. Sometimes the engine control system malfunction warning light comes on before other symptoms of a malfunction begin to appear. In any case, if the lamp does not go out while driving, it is necessary to diagnose the engine management system as soon as possible.
NOTE: If the fault that caused the engine management system warning light to come on does not reoccur for three consecutive trips, the warning light will turn off automatically.
