NOTE: If strut springs need to be replaced, replace only in pairs (right and left at the same time).
1. Remove shock absorber (pic. 7.2) from the car (see «Removal and installation of a shock-absorber rack of a forward suspension bracket»).
2. Install the spring compressor and compress the spring.
3. Loosen the stem nut while holding the stem from turning with a second wrench.
4. Remove the nut...
5....and a puck.
6. Remove the top support.
7.... and the upper support cup assembled with a protective cover.
8. Detach the boot from the support cup.
9. Remove the spring...
10....and a compression buffer.
11. Install the rack vertically and lower and raise the shock absorber rod several times until it stops. Make sure that the stem moves without dips, jams and knocks. Otherwise, replace the stand. Also, replace it if the threads on the top of the stem are damaged.
WARNING: Replace shock struts only in pairs (right and left at the same time).
12. Replace the compression stroke buffer if damaged.
13. Replace the upper support in case of severe deformation or local buckling of the rubber array.
14. Replace the thrust bearing if it is corroded, has axial movement in the housing, or seizes when turning.
15. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
NOTES: When installing the spring, make sure that the end of its lower coil rests against the special protrusion of the lower spring cup.
Tighten the top nut of the strut with the vehicle on the ground to the torque given in Appendix 1.
16. After repairing the shock absorber strut of the front suspension, check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment angles (see «Checking and adjusting wheel alignment»). Use the services of workshops with special equipment.
