After absorption of the collision energy, this system is restored to its original position.
Bumpers structurally consist of two elements: an impact energy absorber and a polymer lining.
Bumpers can be removed and installed as a unit, as an assembly or piece by piece.
The front and rear bumpers contain an internal foam energy absorber and polymer lining. To gain access to the energy absorber and the bumper, the trim must be removed. The front bumper can be removed as an assembly, or the bumper cover can be removed separately.
Front bumper cover
With the front wheels removed:
1. Unscrew the screws, bolts, nuts and remove the mudguard from the front wheel niche;
2. Remove headlights, turn signal repeaters and front fog lights;
3. Unscrew the screws that secure the niches to the scaffold;
Removal and installation of a forward bumper
Withdrawal
4. Remove nuts from facing;
5. Remove the screws under the trim;
6. Remove the screws from the top of the cladding;
7. Remove facing of a forward bumper.
Front bumper energy absorber
8. With the front bumper trim removed, unscrew the fastening nuts.
9. Remove the front bumper energy absorber.
When installing, tighten the fasteners to the following torques:
- nuts for fastening the energy absorber of the front bumper - 27 Nm;
- screws, bolts, nuts of the front wheel niche and mudguard - 1.5 Nm.
Installation
Installation is made in an order, the return to removal.
Removal and installation of a back bumper
Withdrawal
1. Remove the rear wheels
2. Turn off screws of fastening and remove a mudguard.
Loosen the fixing screws and remove the dust shield.
3. Remove the screws behind the bumper trim.
4. Remove the nuts at the rear of the bumper energy absorber.
5. Remove the corner rear trunk trim.
6. Turn off screws of fastening of facing of a bumper in a luggage carrier.
7. Remove screws and exterior trim under rear lights.
8. Remove the screws securing the lining under the rear lights.
9. Remove the rear top trim screws.
10. Remove the energy absorber.
11. Remove the bumper trim
Installation
Installation is made in an order, the return to removal.
When installing, tighten the fasteners to the following torques:
- rear bumper energy absorber nuts - 27 Nm;
- screws for fastening the bumper lining - 10 Nm;
- fastening screws for the lining of the luggage compartment - 5.5 Nm;
- screws for fastening mudguards and mudguards - 1.5 Nm.
